How Big is Too Big for Breast Implants?

I occasionally get asked this question- how big is too big for breast implants?

As a plastic surgeon, I’m limited by

- patient expectations
- skin stretch or skin laxity
- rib cage, breast width, breast height, and other dimesions
- the available volumes and profiles of breast implants.

In general, you probably know that a “C” cup is an average breast volume for a woman. However, you probably did not know that cup size is inconsistent, and can be variable in terms of volume. As a plastic surgeon, I’m not a huge fan of cup size, because it’s all over the map. I prefer breast implant volume and profile, because it’s much more precise.

FYI, the largest breast implant generally made is 800 cc. The typical woman in the US probably gets around 400 – 450 cc. Canada, Asia, and Europe breast implants used are are usually a smaller volume.

So, if you want to be a D, DD, or beyond, then it’s a question of what volume and profile breast implant you want, as well as your body dimensions.

In the picture above, this person probably got close to the largest size available in relation to her breast anatomy measurements. Is this too big? Well, there are plenty of women her height and weight who have A, B, C, D, DD, and beyond cup sizes. The vast majority will be around C cup, but in the end, I think it’s patient opinion that really drives the end result.
