Sorry to bring this post up again, but it’s still a good lesson-
BOARD CERTIFICATION MATTERS!
A “BOARD EXAM” is simply a very rigorous test, usually written and oral, that a doctor takes at the end of his or her training. This is well after medical school- just because you have a MD degree doesn’t mean you have a board. You have to finish residency and sometime further fellowship training to be even allowed to take the written and oral board exam.
A “real” board is affiliated with a Medical Specialty within the ABMS/ American Board of Medical Specialties. Note that Plastic Surgery is one of the member specialties.

I recently got an application from the “American Academy of Cosmetic Breast Surgery/ AACBS”. It’s not a “real” board, in the sense that I can’t find how it fits into the ABMS. There’s an article in the latest “Plastic Surgery News”, a journal for plastic surgeons, that states that the AACBS is NOT a part of any official plastic surgery organization that they’re aware of, and that they’re looking into it.
I thought I would post a copy of the application, just in case you wanted to join. Who knows? Maybe you can start doing cosmetic breast surgery after you get this certificate!
