Breast Reduction, or Reduction Mammoplasty, is a procedure to reduce the size of your breasts while still retaining the overall aesthetic appearance. To qualify, you need to have breasts out of proportion to your body, weight proportionate to your height, and documented neck/ shoulder/ back pain. Some insurance companies may require documentation from your family doctor that you are healthy otherwise, and that you have tried physical therapy to non-surgically attempt to alleviate the problem.
Typically, the surgeon needs to get permission, or “pre-surgical authorization”, before you have your surgery. You will usually have an out-patient procedure, with no need to stay in the hospital. You will need anywhere from 1-3 weeks to recover from your breast reduction procedure.
