This will be 1 of several articles about different jobs available in a typical Plastic Surgeon’s office. So, you really want to work for a Plastic Surgeon? Typically, there are 3 major roles- Receptionist/ Office Manager/ Administrative Stuff, Patient Care Coordinator, and Nurse.
The Receptionist typically does the back office work, including very important paperwork, documentation, and detail oriented work. You will meet and greet patients, and will have to be very customer service oriented. Hopefully, as you learn more, you can become the Office Manager, or Patient Care Coordinator. This is usually a starting job, but a great Receptionist will always be needed in a Plastic Surgeon’s Office.
Personally, I feel that attitude is more important than education. Experience in hospitality, customer service, and a willingness to learn are the key elements in being a great receptionist. If you don’t enjoy people, helping people, or social interactions in general, then you should probably work in a regular doctor’s office, and not in a Plastic Surgeon’s office.
No, I don’t have any openings now, but you’ll hear about it when I do!
