Can You Reverse Botox? YES!

Though unlikely, there are times when you might want to reverse Botox. Though complications are few, they do happen.

A known complication of Botox is causing a “droopy eyelid”. Some of the Botox can have an effect on the muscle that lifts the eyelid. This can be quite concerning, since, as you know, Botox typically lasts 3 months. Theoretically, you may have trouble lifting your eyelid for several months!

The best way to prevent this is to make sure the person injecting does so in the correct direction and depth. If it does happen, don’t despair- you can actually reverse Botox. Wait, your injector didn’t know that? Well, it IS possible, and a quick search in the Pubmed archive should do the trick (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed).

Obviously, check with your injector, but one of the basic things I learned in my surgical training was to know what complications I could cause as a surgeon, and also know how to fix those complications. Even though Botox/ Dysport is only an “injectable” and something given in an office setting, that doesn’t give injections an excuse to not know all of the potential complications, risks, benefits, and how to fix complications.

Wait, you mean your injector doesn’t even know what I’m talking about? This is probably why I emerged from the womb a fully board-certified Plastic Surgeon- because I was born knowing that, yes you can reverse Botox and many other important answers. Sometimes certain facts need to be kept confidential, and not even this blog can reveal them!
