Where is your Botox from? A not so easy question to answer!
Botox (www.botoxcosmetic.com), is the trademarked name for neurotoxin made by Allergan. There are several other neurotoxins throughout the world marketed by different companies. The only alternative in the US, for now, is Dysport (www.dysport.com). There are several others on the horizon.
Botox and Dysport must pass FDA regulations to be allowed to be sold in the US. Of course, we have our wonderful neighbors in Canada and Mexico for the same product at a lower price. The problem, theoretically, is that if you order a pharmaceutical from another country, you can’t verify every single step in the supply chain to ensure that it would pass safety, effectiveness, and other tests that are required here in the US.
Botox and Dysport are shipped in special styrofoam containers with dry ice, to make sure that they remain at a certain temperature. Theoretically, if you get some from overseas, you can’t truly guarantee that absolute legal certainty if it’s shipped in from elsewhere.
I only use Botox from the US. Yes, it’s at a slightly higher price, but I’m just paranoid that way.
