Why do convenience stores or drycleaners have a minimum charge for using a credit card? Because there’s a transaction fee for the merchant/ business accepting your credit card! This transaction fee can vary, but it’s generally relatively low. Visa and Mastercard generally offer lower rates than Amex, and certain businesses probably pay less than others. Online and mail order companies typically have to pay more for a transaction fee than a business with the customer physically present.
The same thing occurs in Plastic Surgery. Using a credit card or cosmetic surgery financing may increase the costs for you, the patient, as well as to the plastic surgeon. You can imagine the transaction fee for your procedures that runs in the thousands of dollars. If you can pay with cash or check, you can ask your Patient Care Coordinator if there is a cash discount. It doesn’t hurt to ask, and you may be able to slightly lower your costs.
